Melanie Leyton is a bit of a spoiled, self-confessed party girl,
who attends school in France and steals expensive jewelry from her
friends. Upon meeting her brother Max, she had him framed for a
crime he didn’t commit.
While 21-year-old Molly Burnett regularly stars on “Days of Our
Lives” as hell-raising Melanie, the former Littleton High School
student can also play nice — naughty, but nice.
Enter Amanda Jane, the sweet Christian girl who stars in the
all-female band Amanda Jane and the God Rockets.
On June 21, Burnett made her debut as Amanda Jane on HBO’s True
Blood — a series about vampires and supernatural misfits — singing
Amanda Jane and the God Rockets’ hit “Jesus Asked Me Out
Today.”
“Amanda isn’t your stereotypical Christian singer,” Burnett said
in a magazine interview.
“She’s very sexy in a Britney Spears sort of way. She’d be
considered a little controversial, not very appropriate for
Christian music, I guess, but she dances and rocks out and sings
about Jesus, so it’s kind of funny.”
It was at Littleton High School when Burnett caught the acting
bug, appearing in “Annie,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” and
“Seussical.”
After graduating high school she moved to New York City, but
soon realized in order to find the success she was looking for she
needed to be in Hollywood.
Shortly after the move, and after finding an agent and manager,
Burnett was cast in Days of Our Lives.
As lead singer Amanda Jane, Burnett has attracted the attention
of Atlantic Records. Her tune “Jesus Asked Me Out Today,” has been
added as the bonus track to the season one soundtrack.
Burnett’s biggest fantasy is to become a rock star. When she
shot her big concert scene, “the other actors had to pretend like
she was a big sensation and cheer for her like crazy.”
“OK, so it wasn’t exactly real but it was like being a rock star
for a day. It’s still my big fantasy.”
