There ain’t no party like a Littleton block party

Music, fun and fireworks will mark the celebration of the Littleton community as the “Get Wild on Littleton” block party takes over Main Street for the fifth year.

On July 11, from 6- 10 p.m., the blocks of the historic district will be filled with vendors, bands and more.

In addition to showcasing downtown merchants, there will be plenty of food sampling at the party.

Those who buy wristbands — which cost $10 in advance and $15 at the event — will feast on eats from Littleton area restaurants.

Get Wild on Littleton got its start in September 2005 when the South Metro Chamber of Commerce was host to the Governor's Conference on Tourism.

To showcase the local communities, the chamber brought some 500 tourism professionals to the Wildlife Experience for a party one night, and then took the group to Historic Downtown Littleton the next day.

The visitors walked Main Street and joined 8,000 residents for a neighborhood party that was bigger than anyone had anticipated.

Since it was such a big success, the city decided to host the event again.

For the past two years, Littleton has kicked off the summer season with the block party and ended it with the Western Welcome Week celebration in August.

The City of Littleton, Littleton Adventist Hospital, The South Metro Chamber, Historic Downtown Littleton Merchants, and IES Power are presenting the block party.

“What makes this such a great event is it’s really a community celebration,” said John Brackney, president of the South Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the event.

“It’s almost small town Americana, right in major metropolitan Denver.”
