Suspicious device found in restaurant

Posted

Just two days after its grand opening celebration, Merle’s Restaurant in Littleton got a bit of a scare.

What began as a report of a home-made hand grenade left on a table at the restaurant turned out to be a child’s toy.

The Littleton Police Department responded Dec. 7 to a parking lot adjacent to 2609 W. Main Street in Littleton, where Merle’s Restaurant staff had moved the object.

Merle’s, as well as Opus Restaurant were evacuated pending the arrival of the bomb squad.

The device was X-rayed at the scene, but personnel were unable to decide if the object was dangerous, officials said.

The suspicious object was then moved to a bomb disposal trailer and taken to the Douglas Law Training Center on Hwy 85, where it was deemed inert.

No one was hurt in the incident, and the matter is under investigation.
