Boys golf teams from high schools in Douglas County were all
over the Class 5A state championship results Oct. 4 and 5 in Grand
Junction at Bookcliff Country Club.
Highlands Ranch finished in third place as a team with 449
points. ThunderRidge followed in fourth place, 10 strokes behind
the Falcons. Rock Canyon, in its second year of 5A post-season
action, finished in sixth place with 462.
The top individual from a Douglas County school was William Hoff
of Ponderosa. Hoff finished in a four-way tie for fifth place with
a score of 147. Ranch’s Blake Basham also finished among the top 10
in a tie for ninth place having shot 148.
Class 4A
In the Class 4A state meet Oct. 4 and 5 at Pelican Lakes Golf
Club in Windsor, Valor Christian walked away as the championship
runner-up team with a score of 425, a total of 7 under par.
Wyndam Clark was the 4A state individual champion having shot a
16-under-par 128. Clark managed to play both rounds of the
tournament without a single bogey. He shot six birdies in the first
round and had an eagle on the No. 2 hole. In Round 2, Clark had six
birdies again and booked an eagle on No. 5. He shot par on
everything else.
Helping Valor to the runner-up finish was Josh Seiple, who shot
2-over 126 to finish in a tie at ninth place. Seiple shot three
birdies the first day of competition and followed up with six more
in Round 2. Jake Staiano finished in a tie at 17 having shot 151.
He had three birdies in the first round and two more in the second.
In Round 2, Staiano shot an eagle at the No. 5 hole.
Last in for the Eagles was Blake Patterson, who tied at 22 with
152. He shot three birdies and an eagle on No. 5 in the first
round. Patterson followed up with three more birdies in round
two.

5A individual results by team
Castle View
Daniel Becker shot a 162 for the Sabercats to finish in a tie at
55. He shot a birdie on the No. 11 hole in the first round. David
Becker finished in a tie at 60 with 163 having shot two birdies in
the first round.
Douglas County
Kyler Dunkle was the leader for the Huskies at state this year.
He finished in a tie at 20th place with 151 on the scorecard.
Dunkle shot three birdies in the first round and another in the
second.
Highlands Ranch
Blake Basham finished in a ninth-place tie having shot 148. He
had three birdies and an eagle on the No. 1 hole in the first
round. He drilled two more birdies in the second. Ryan Pettegrew
tied at 23 with two birdies in Round 1 and four the second day.
Connor Klein finished in a tie at 27. He managed two birdies in the
first round.
Legend
Jordan Daubenspeck wrapped up his appearance at state with a 166
to tie at 67. He birdied the No. 1 hole in the first round and the
No. 10 hole in the second.
Ponderosa
William Hoff finished in a fifth-place tie for the Mustangs
having shot 147. Hoff shot three birdies in the first round and
another in the second. Alex Beaudoin came in at a tie at 60 having
shot two birdies in the second round to help him wrap up with
163.
Rock Canyon
Andrew Romano led the Jaguars in a tie at 15 with 150. Romano
nailed two birdies in Round 1. Josh Gardella finished in a tie at
23 having shot 153. He had a birdie on the No. 13 hole in the
second round. Matt Dalton finished in a tie at 46 with 159. He had
a birdie at the No. 11 hole in the first round and managed two
others in the second round.
ThunderRidge
Kyle Brockman finished in a tie at 15 with a score of 150. He
had two birdies in the first round and another in the second. Quade
Mitchell also finished in that tie at 15. Mitchell had three
birdies in Round 1. Eric Wendt finished in a 46th-place tie with
159. He had a birdie in the first round at the No. 14 hole. Trevor
McCord shot a 178 to finish at 80 overall. He fell into
double-bogey trouble in the first round but came up with two
birdies in the second.
