Five local artists who call themselves the Palette Pals are into
their sixth year of painting together on a regular basis:
critiquing each other’s work, exchanging ideas about technique,
media and what they’ve learned through assorted workshops,
critiques, artists organizations and community involvement.
Char Davis, Parker; Rosemary Laughlin, Littleton; Darlene
Maestas, Arvada; Beth Narva, Littleton and Merrie Wicks, Ken Caryl
Ranch, work in watercolor, acrylic, oil, pastels, collage and mixed
media. They have produced small works for their show in the Stanton
Gallery at Town Hall Arts Center from Nov. 2 through Jan. 4.
Included will be framed 8-inch by 10-inch pieces, unframed
canvases and smaller miniature art pieces. All works are for
sale.
Each artist is a signature member of the Colorado Watercolor
Society and, through the years, they have contributed to charitable
causes such as Channel 6 Auction and Soup for the Soul plus other
silent auctions.
The group’s main purpose is to “paint on a regular basis and
display our individual art works in galleries and local art
shows.”
Davis, trained in architectural drawing, tries for a feeling of
Impressionism— capturing a moment in time. Narva, a Colorado
native, loves the scenery that surrounds her. On occasion she
paints “en plein air,” but she also carries a camera to capture a
scene for future reference in the studio. Wicks sometimes combines
media and works with collage.
Laughlin, also a Colorado native, has a pet portrait business,
paints portraits of people and portrays the world around her. She
and Wicks founded Palette Pals. Versatile Maestas of Arvada not
only paints, but creates sculpture, glass works and jewelry.
The gallery at Town Hall, 2450 W. Main St., Downtown Littleton,
is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and during performances. (“White
Christmas” runs Nov. 12 through Dec. 26). 303-794-2787.
