A local artist has posted the 100th self-portrait relating to the pandemic in her project, “Pandemic Self-Portraits: Self-Portraits and Stories from the Pandemic.”
Adrienne DeLoe, of Wheat Ridge, launched her project on Instragram and Facebook, and within two weeks she was up to 100 portraits, according to a news release. Two days after her first post, she said submissions from all over the world.
“It became obvious very quickly that people wanted to share their images and stories of their experiences in quarantine and throughout the pandemic,” DeLoe said. “I started this project because I was feeling a need to make something positive surrounding the pandemic. It started with wanting to make a self-portrait of my own to express my feelings about what I am going through. I quickly had the idea that others might want to share their images and stories as well. We are all so isolated right now, so I wanted to create a space where people could be open and honest about what they are going through in order to connect with others.”
The quality of the stories and images has been impressive, DeLoe said in the release, and she said she will keep the project going for as long as people send their work. She wants to turn the self-portraits into a physical art exhibition, and possibly publish a book surrounding the project.
