Project aims to give women a boost

Special to CCN

2009 has been a tough year for many women for a variety of reasons — divorce, job loss, single moms, financial challenges, cancer, illness, death of a loved one or caring for a sick or elderly family member. Women tend to put themselves last and especially do not take care of themselves in a time of crisis.

New Year — New You! is a community service project designed to provide selected women an evening of “Health, Healing and Beauty.” The event is Jan.10 at the Antoine Du Chez Salon and Spa in the Belleview Promenade from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Through the generosity of several businesses and wellness providers, this event will provide a free evening of health, healing, beauty and resources for selected women who have had a rough 2009. We want to find women who have not had the time nor the money to take care of themselves.

We want to give these women tools and resources to help them deal with the stress in their lives. We want to hit a niche of people that are not served by public assistance and yet cannot afford to do this for themselves right now. The ultimate goal is for each woman to leave feeling beautiful, confident, nurtured, valued and empowered. Hopefully, this “new woman” can make a difference with their family, friends, neighbors and coworkers.

Potential services offered include: Haircut/style, nails, massage, Body Talk, Emotion Code, ionic foot bath, energy kinesiology, inch loss and detox body wraps, and acupressure. There will be ongoing activities including learning stress relief through acupressure, laughing yoga, prayer partners and more. A resource section will have a female financial planner, female mortgage broker, legal services information and more.

A resource list showing a variety of resources and services along with some special discount coupons will be provided to all nominees — even the ones that are not selected to attend the New Year New You event.

To nominate yourself or someone else:

1. Make sure the nominee can attend the New Year New You! Event on Jan. 10 at 5 p.m. at the Antoine Du Chez salon in the Belleview Promenade. No childcare or transportation is provided. If you are nominating someone, please confirm with them (availability, transportation and childcare) before nominating. Also, if the nominee can easily afford the spa and wellness services, please do not nominate them.

2. E-mail your nomination to newyouentry@yahoo.com. Please include the following:

a. Nominee’s name, email address, phone number and the best time to call if selected.

b. In 50 words or less, share why the nominee has had an exceptionally rough year.

c. Add 1-2 sentences saying what impact you think the New Year New You event would have on the nominee and the people in their life.

d. Find out which two salon/healing services would be their top choice. No guarantees, but effort will be made to accommodate at least one choice if possible.

e. Type “Confirmed” to verify the date, time and location will work for them and that transportation and childcare issues can be worked out.

f. If you are nominating someone else, please include your name, email and phone number.

3. All entries must be received by midnight MT on Dec. 31.

Exact number of winners will be finalized based on nominations and volunteers. We anticipate helping at least 20 - 30 women at the New Year New You event, but would love to help more. All nominees will receive the resource list as well as a coupon sheet (discounts or referral programs from the people donating their time/services at the event).
