Posted

The Englewood Police Department said Thursday it is investigating a murder that occurred in southwest Englewood Wednesday night.

According to police, officers responded to shots fired near South Elati Street and West Radcliff Avenue at around 9:57 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers, after arriving at the scene, said they encountered a man with a rifle running west on West Radcliff and arrested him. A woman was found dead from a gunshot wound "at a nearby residence," police said. Police said the woman's identity will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office.

Though residents were asked to avoid the area,  police said in a social media post at 12:19 a.m. Thursday that "there is no threat to the public at this time."

According to social media posts, several nearby residents said they heard the gunshots Wednesday night and reported heavy police activity in the area through Thursday morning.
