Young, but longtime resident
I am 19 years old and I have been living in Centennial since I was about 4 or 5 years old, so quite a long time. This is my first year at Johnson & Wales University in Denver.
Love of the craft
I have always loved food and the process of making homemade food. I also liked watching and helping my mom in the kitchen. I find meaning in the food service field because when someone tastes and enjoys the food I prepare, it gives me satisfaction. It helps me know that I am doing everything right and that I can succeed.
I would like to possibly be a spud chef. As for where? I am not sure. Any place that I can fit into that role. I also hope to one day own a restaurant.
Recipient of US Foods scholarship
It will definitely help me pay for the university, and it has also shown me that all the hard work I am putting in is paying off and will continue to pay off. It also motivates me to work harder to prove myself. (Seven students from four U.S. cities were selected to receive up to $20,000 each in the US Foods Scholars program.)
Education translating to real-life work
The experience that stuck with me was probably the first time I did a plated dinner. I had never done it before, and it showed me how much goes in to a plated event as well as how one works. The experience helped me because now I work somewhere that has lots of plated events.
When I'm not cooking …
I am really into archery. Both my parents are into it as well, and we all compete. I have been doing it for about five to six years.
