Staff report
The League of Women Voters of Arapahoe County will hold a
general, informational meeting about voting rights from 1 to 4 p.m.
on Feb. 24 at Koelbel Library, 5955 S. Holly St., Centennial.
Background: In 2011 more than a dozen states passed laws
limiting early voting periods, restricting voter registration
drives, and/or requiring a photo ID to vote at the polls. Many
voting experts say these laws could make it harder for more than 5
million eligible voters to vote in the presidential election.
Legislators who have passed almost all of these new election
laws say they are necessary to prevent voter fraud. Will these laws
help or hurt voters? And is voter fraud really a problem? LWV
offers information about the issue nationally and locally at the
meeting which will feature Elena Nunez, Executive Director of
Colorado Common Cause.
The meeting is free and open to the public. Information,
303-779-0814.
