A man faces an attempted murder charge after attacking a Littleton woman, according to police.

Leroy James Chavez, 48, was arrested in the early morning hours of April 6. He is being held in the Arapahoe County jail without bond.

At 12:45 a.m., officers were called to the 5900 block of South Bemis Street on the report of a woman who had ran to a neighbor’s home in need of help, according to a Littleton Police Department news release.

Officers received information that a former acquaintance of the victim, Chavez, whom she had a restraining order against, had forced his way into her home, assaulted her and attempted to kill her.

Chavez was fleeing the scene in his vehicle when he was observed by responding officers, according to the news release. He was stopped and taken into custody. The woman sustained a number of injuries, but none were life threatening.

Chavez is being charged with criminal attempt to commit murder in the second degree, second-degree kidnapping, robbery, first-degree burglary, assault, domestic violence and violation of a restraining order.
