Littleton track teams ring the Bell

With regional competition just around the corner, track teams from Littleton are meeting with the best in the state.

Both the girls and boys teams from Heritage High School finished in sixth place April 25 at Littleton Public Schools Stadium in Littleton for the annual Liberty Bell Invitational. The Eagles girls wrapped up the overcast and chilly meet with 48 points, behind fifth place ThunderRidge at 55. Eagles boys had 43 points, just behind fourth-place Sierra with 44.

Arapahoe boys, who won the Class 5A state title last year, was 11th among 31 teams, while the Warrior girls finished 13th. The Littleton Lions girls finished 17th, and the boys at 22.

Heritage’s Andrea Slouka took gold in the girls 200-meter dash with a time of 25.69 seconds. Jenna Pinto, Slouka, Erin Mock and Angela Csaszar won the 400 relay with 49.72 seconds.

Jordan Edwards, a state champion last year, took second in the boys 100-meter dash with 11.03 and second in the 200 with 22.18.

The Heritage girls 800-meter relay team, also with Pinto, Slouka, Mock and Csaszar, finished second in its event with 1:44.66.

Andrew Shultz was third in the pole vault, and Cody Sanders was third in the shot put.

Arapahoe’s Connor Winter was third in the boys 3,200 run. Sophie McNeely was third in the girls 3,200. Stephanie Gerber was third in the 300-meter hurdles.

Littleton’s Jenna Adams took gold in the girls pole vault with a height of 11 feet, 7 inches.

Nike Littleton Invitational

The Littleton Lions won the Nike Littleton Invitational April 20 at Littleton Public Schools Stadium with a clean 200 points. Arapahoe finished tied at sixth with 65 points, and Heritage finished eighth with 64.

Highlights (Littleton): Senior Ben Courtney won the boys 300-meter high hurdles with a time of 39.58 seconds. Senior Camille Logan won the girls 1,600 run with 5 minutes, 14.12 seconds. Logan also took third in the 3,200. Junior Joe Takikawa won the boys long jump with a distance of 22-5.5. Sophomore Jonathan Edmunds was first in the boys triple jump. He also took third in the long jump. Junior Jenna Adams won the girls pole vault with a height of 11-0. Senior Brooke Jackson took the discus throw with a distance of 122-8. The Lions’ girls 1,600-meter relay team won its event with 3:57.63.

Senior Kevin Scheuerman was second in the 400 dash. Senior Nathan Guthals was second in the 800. Freshman Dana Gaetani was second in the girls 400, while teammate Aleah Meade was third. Colleen McAnallen, sophomore, took second in the pole vault. Senior Megan Glandon was third in the girls shot put. Littleton’s boys 800-meter relay and 1,600 relay teams were second in their respective events.

Senior Jaquia Respass took third in the girls 300 high hurdles. Jillian Quintana, a senior, was third in the shot put.

Highlights (Arapahoe): Senior Marcus Pierce took second in the 300 high hurdles. Senior Stephanie Gerber was second in the girls 300 high hurdles. Gerber also took third in the 100 hurdles. The Warriors’ boys 3,200-meter relay team was second in its event. The girls 3,200 relay team was also second.

Highlights (Heritage): Senior Jordan Edwards won the boys 100-meter dash with a time of 10.47 seconds. Edwards also won the 200 with 21.79. Junior Andrea Slouka won the girls 100 dash with 12.29. Slouka was also third in the long jump. The Eagles’ girls 400-meter relay team won its event with 49.87 seconds. Senior Cody Sanders was third place in the boys shot put.
