Vacancies abound on the City of Littleton's boards and commissions, but the deadline to apply is fast approaching.
The city currently lists vacancies on 11 different boards and commissions, which have a wide variety of duties and often undertake crucial studies and prepare reports that are employed by city council when making decisions.
Most boards and commissions require members to be city residents. Applications, which are available by searching for the phrase “Boards & Commissions Vacancies” on the LittletonGov.org website, are due by 5 p.m. on Jan. 31.

The following boards and commissions have vacancies:
Board of Adjustment (three vacancies): Authorized to grant zoning variances, allow land uses permitted by exception, and hear appeals on administrative staff decisions.
Building Board of Appeals (four vacancies): Reviews building code issues and decides on matters concerning the suspension or revocation of licenses under the Uniform Building Code.
Election Commission (one vacancy): Reviews, recommends and establishes procedures for municipal elections. Also establishes voting districts and appoints election judges.
Fine Arts Board (two vacancies): Reviews and selects artworks and exhibitions for public locations and facilities citywide. Also promotes cultural arts within the city and functions as the city's representative in art-related projects with other public and private entites.
Historical Preservation Board (three vacancies): Recommends policies, rules and regulations relating to historic preservation; develops public information and education programs, recommends buildings and sites for landmark status.
Licensing Authority (three vacancies): Makes decisions dealing with liquor licensing and marijuana establishments, including reviewing requests for new licenses and hearings for current license holders.
Littleton Arts and Culture Commission (three vacancies): Provides policy advice to city council regarding art, culture, and tourism. Encourages the support and growth and expansion of culture and arts in the community.
Next Generation Advisory Committee (eight vacancies): Seeks recommendations and feedback on city policy that impact the attraction and retention of young residents and employees. Membership is limited to people who live or work in Littleton between the ages of 17 and 36.
Planning Commission (four vacancies): Responsible for reviewing and making recommendations on master plans, land annexations and initial zoning, flood plain designation, rezoning proposals and new subdivisions.
South Metro Housing Options (two vacancies): Administers housing and rental assistance programs, purchases and owns real estate and buildings to serve low-income residents. Recommends specific housing policies and programs to the city.
Transportation Mobility Board (four vacancies): Provides insight to city council on transportation, mobility and multi-modal issues in Littleton and regionally. Reviews how the city develops, finances and implements the transportation system.
