Laissez les bons temps rouler — let the good times roll.
Mardi Gras and Fat Tuesday mean a celebratory weekend in
Littleton, and around the world. On Feb. 16, there will be
wonderful, colorful parades in New Orleans, in Latin America and in
Venice, where it’s called Carnivale. Party before giving up
pleasures for Lent.
For 10 years, Littleton has held its own variation on the theme
during the prior weekend, orchestrated by the always imaginative
Reinke Brothers. At press time, we have partial information and
will fill in more next week.
Eight local bars and restaurants, in or at the edges of downtown
Littleton, will host Mardi Gras parties on Feb. 12 and 13, many
with Cajun food:
Romano’s will serve jambalaya, crayfish pasta and gumbo and will
host the Bon Tee Cajun Band from 7 to 9 p.m. both evenings.
Ned Kelly’s will serve Cajun shrimp and will feature the F.
Gordon Band on Friday and Canned Haggis Band on Saturday.
McKinner’s will serve Mardi Gras specials and will host the
Hippogriffs from 10 p.m. to close on Friday; Petals of Spain from
10 p.m. to close Saturday.
Olde Town Tavern will offer a Cajun menu and the Flam Band 9:30
p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday, with Friday’s band to be announced.
Jose’s Restaurant will serve gumbo and music by Jim Lofton both
nights. (It’s opening weekend for “Guys and Dolls” at Town hall, so
a reservation is probably a good plan).
Merle‘s Restaurant is flying in fresh crayfish and will offer
other Cajun Cuisine. Bands will be Englewood Social Club on Friday
and Barley Brothers on Saturday.
The Old Mill Brewery will have jambalaya and bands, TBA.
Platte River Bar and Grill will present bands, names TBA.
Beads, masks and trinkets will be available at all
locations.
