Holiday lights set the mood

Downtown Littleton’s holiday cheer is lasting longer than usual this year, thanks to the efficiency of LED lighting.

“It reduces the usage cost,” said Charlie Blosten, the city’s director of public services.

At the request of some downtown merchants, he’s leaving the Main Street holiday lights on through this weekend’s Mardi Gras celebration and for part of Denver Restaurant Week, Feb. 25 through March 9. Half the lights are LED, half are incandescent.

“People like them, and it attracts attention to downtown Littleton,” he said. “I have had people say, ‘Why don’t you leave them on all year?’”

But that would detract from the splendor of turning them on during the Candlelight Walk each year the Friday after Thanksgiving. This year, the lights will stay on until the morning of March 5, so the last chance to see them at night will be March 4.

Downtown restaurants participating in Denver Restaurant Week include Café Terracotta, Delizios, JaJa Bistro, Merle’s, Opus and The Melting Pot. Wild Ginger, to the east at 399 W. Littleton Blvd., is also participating. All will offer dinner for two for $52.80, a nod to the Mile High City’s elevation.
