With three runners in the top 75 at state, and only one being a
senior, Heritage High School boys cross country has plenty of
reasons to look forward.
Heritage finished in 11th place as a team in the 2009 Class 5A
state cross country championship race Oct. 31 at Fossil Ridge High
School in Fort Collins.
Leading the way for the Eagles at state this year was junior
Garrett Lee, who came in at 13 overall with a time of 16 minutes,
23.19 seconds. Behind him was senior Cameron Delphia with 17:12.44
for 62nd place overall.
Sophomore Matt Zitzman was third in for the Eagles at 64 overall
with 17:13.44, and junior Zach Cohen cross the finish at 75 with
17:24.04.
Also running at state for Heritage this season was junior
Garrett Leib, junior Eric Ellingboe and junior Spencer Wilson.
The Eagles boys cross country program has grown to 111
thinclads, approximately 7 percent of the school’s student body.
Last summer, more than 50 athletes showed up for Heritage
off-season runs.
