Fire extinguished

A Littleton firefighter mops up the hot spots after putting out a grass fire on the hillside north of the 2600 block of West Ridge Road. The fire apparently was caused when sparks from a malfunctioning transformer set the tinder-dry grass ablaze. Reportedly, a mylar balloon got caught in the wires and caused a short. Two fire engines moved in to put out the blaze. No buildings were damaged and no one was injured as a result of the fire. Xcel energy crews quickly repaired the transformer. Photo by Tom Munds
