An animal rehabilitation facility in Larkspur has a new baby to
nurture. A 7-month-old bobcat was rescued on C-470 Sept. 23, but
unfortunately her sibling didn’t survive.
A Lakewood Police spokesman said the cats were hit at about 8:45
a.m. near Morrison Road, and were taken to Deer Creek Animal
Hospital in Littleton. Apparently a passing motorist stopped and
called Lakewood Animal Control who brought the bobcat to Deer
Creek.
“The bobcat underwent surgery Tuesday and was transported to a
Larkspur rehabilitation site, where she will stay for about six
weeks,” Deer Creek Animal Hospital spokesman Marty Schechter
said.
Schechter was under instruction not to give out the exact
wildlife rehabilitation location of the bobcat in Larkspur.
According to Schechter the bobcat was eating well and feisty
after surgery, that repaired broken thigh bones in both of her hind
legs. She weighs about 20 pounds.
The plan is to eventually have her visit the veterinarian
hospital after rehabilitation and return her back into the
wild.
The area where the cats were hit is surrounded by open spaces
including Hayden Green Mountain Park and Bear Creek Lake Park.
