Longtime Cedaredge, Colorado resident, Edwin "Bud" Perkins, died
as a result of a brief illness on Saturday, June 13, 2009, at the
Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was eighty-three years of
age.
A memorial service honoring Bud's life will be held at 2:00
p.m., Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Cedaredge Community United
Methodist Church, with Pastor Deb Edwards officiating. A private
family inurnment will be held at the Cedaredge Cemetery.
Edwin Carroll Perkins was born to Harold Edwin Perkins and Ruth
Carolyn (Carroll) Perkins on October 20, 1925 in Douglas, Wyoming.
He spent his childhood in La Porte and Ft. Collins, Colorado. Bud
graduated from Ft. Collins High School with the class of 1944.
After serving in the Navy, he attended the University of Denver,
earning a Bachelor's in Business Management. Bud graduated with the
class of 1950.
On June 8, 1951, Bud married Mary Caryl Coles at the University
Park Methodist Church in Denver, Colorado. To this union four
children were born. Bud, his wife and family resided in Littleton,
Colorado, for many years before Bud and Mary Caryl settled in
Cedaredge, Colorado for the past 17 years.
Bud was a dedicated member of several organizations including;
Cedaredge Cemetery Board for over 12 years and as president for
many years; Cedaredge Tree Board where he was actively involved in
establishing the arboretum at the Pioneer Town; past president of
the Cedaredge Historical Society. Bud served on numerous real
estate organizations in his career, including the Denver and South
Suburban Board of Realtors. He was a member of the University of
Denver fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE). His association with
his fraternity brothers was some of his most enduring friendships,
and they met for reunions for over fifty years. Bud was a sports
enthusiast, always knowledgeable about statistics and the history
of sports. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting
events. He competed for many years as a master swimmer, earning
state and national rankings for his age group.
Bud is survived by his wife, Mary Caryl Perkins of Cedaredge,
CO; three sons: Don and wife Reiko, Thornton, CO; Steven, Denver,
CO; Reed and wife Hanna, Denver, CO; and one daughter, Carolyn
Stumpf and husband Troy, Cedaredge, CO. Bud is further survived by
grandchildren: Craig and Danae Perkins, Brad Perkins, Cole Stumpf,
Nathan Stumpf, and Emma Stumpf, and one great-granddaughter, Jade
Perkins. He was preceded in death by his parents, H.E. and Ruth
Perkins, and a brother, John Perkins.
