Staff report
The Real Colorado Cougars’ Katie Hooker was recently drafted by
the L.A. Sol of the Women’s Professional Soccer league.
Real Colorado, and its semi-professional women’s soccer team of
the United Soccer League’s W-League, announced Jan. 19 that Hooker
was selected as the 38th pick in the recent WPS draft.
“It is a tribute to the continued hard work of Brian Haynes,
Lorne Donaldson, and the coaching staff that continues to bring
more accolades to the Cougars and our USL teams,” Cougars general
manager Mark Mais said. “Katie Hooker’s addition to the Cougars
squad in 2008 helped propel the team to its first winning record in
three years and we nearly made the playoffs as well. Her calm
demeanor and superb technical skills, yielded big dividends for the
Cougars in 2008.”
Hooker was a mid-season addition in the central midfield and
provided creativity and leadership from her attacking midfield
spot. She is a former player in the WUSA with the Atlanta Beat and
is also presently an assistant coach with the University of Denver
Pioneers women’s team. Hooker was a first-team all-Central Region
player at DU in 2002. She was an All-Conference selection with the
W League in 2008 with the Cougars.
Hooker and the Sol open their 2009 campaign March 29 at the Home
Depot Center against the Washington Freedom. The Sol also features
Brazilian International Marta, as well as U.S National team players
Shannon Box, Aly Wagner and Stephanie Cox.
