The driver who smashed through the front doors of Petco will
face six charges for the accident.
Mary Anne McGee, 54, of California, was backing out of a parking
space in front of the Highlands Ranch store Nov. 5 when the Dodge
Durango she was driving crashed into the entrance, injuring six
people. She will be served a summons to appear in court on six
counts of careless driving resulting in bodily injury, a class 1
misdemeanor.
Investigators took two months to file charges because they
wanted to make sure mechanical failure was to blame. Two separate
tests were conducted on the vehicle by the Colorado State Patrol
and the Chrysler Corporation.
“The results indicated that there was no apparent vehicle
malfunction during the incident,” the Douglas County Sheriff’s
Office said in a statement.
Those who were struck by the vehicle were transported to the
hospital; one victim was in serious condition. There were five
occupants in the vehicle, but none were injured.
The date of McGee’s first court appearance was not immediately
available.
