Littleton City Councilor Phil Cernanec kicked off election season April 12 by becoming the first to officially announce he will seek to retain his District 3 seat this November.
The other seats up for grabs are Jim Taylor’s in District 1 and Bruce Beckman’s and Bruce Stahlman’s at-large spots. Taylor is term-limited, but the others may run again. Only Cernanec has announced his intentions as of yet.
The at-large candidate with the highest number of votes gets a four-year term, second highest gets a two-year term. The district terms are four years.
Meanwhile, both the city and the school board are offering workshops for potential candidates to learn about the ins and outs of running.
First up is Littleton Public Schools Board of Directors, 6:30-8:30 p.m. on April 23 at the Education Services Center, 5776 S. Crocker St. Current board members, staff and someone from the Colorado Association of School Boards will be on hand to offer information and answer questions.
LPS canceled its last two elections when nobody stepped up to run against the incumbents. This time, Bob Colwell, Renee Howell and Sue Chandler are all finishing their second four-year terms and cannot run again due to term limits.

Those considering a run for Littleton City Council should plan to attend a session led by City Clerk Wendy Heffner and City Manager Michael Penny, 6-8 p.m. June 6 at the Littleton Center, 2255 W. Berry Ave.
Participants will find out about qualifications, nomination petitions, circulation requirements, political signs, Fair Campaign Practices Act requirements, reporting dates and more.

Littleton’s municipal election is Nov. 5. School board and city council are both nonpartisan, so candidates don’t have to disclose any affiliation with a political party.
