Defending champion and No. 1-seeded Arapahoe met with some bad luck this time in the boys high school lacrosse state championship playoffs.

No. 2 seed Cherry Creek, however, kept moving forward and earned a spot in the championship finals against Regis, where it walked away with the state’s top honors

Arapahoe

After defeating Ponderosa in the second round of action and Fort Collins in the quarterfinals, the Warriors took on No. 5-seeded Regis in the semifinals. Arapahoe fell to the Raiders 4-3 in triple overtime.

Brett Menter, Connor McHugh and Dylan Smith each accounted for one goal for the Warriors. Arapahoe finished its 2010 season with a 15-2 overall record.

Cherry Creek

Creek put up wins over Columbine and Mullen in the quarterfinals to reach the semis against No. 6 seed Kent Denver. The Bruins beat the Sun Devils 8-5 for a spot in the finals May 22 at Invesco Field at Mile High in Denver against Regis. The Bruins beat the Raiders for the championship 11-4 for the school’s fourth state bragging rights in boys lacrosse.

In the title game, Kendall Williams scored four goals for Creek. Scot Hewitson scored three, and Brian Maierhofer snuck two into the cage. Henri Halle and Hogan Dannenberg each scored once. Between the pipes, Bruins goaltender Chris White finished with eight saves.
