A large store at the foot of southwest Centennial neighborhoods is expected to soon be under new ownership.
The American Furniture Warehouse at East County Line Road and South University Boulevard permanently closed as of the end of day Dec. 31. But it wasn’t a sign of a downturn in the market, the company’s CEO said.
“Had the opportunity to sell (the) building at a profit,” Jake Jabs said via email. “It was not our model. Our model has stores with warehouses attached so that customers can have it now. The University store was an old store left over from when we bought the Homestead (House) stores.”
Woodley’s Fine Furniture will be taking over the site, according to Jabs. That’s a business with another location just about a mile east on South Colorado Boulevard. A spokesman for Woodley's declined to comment on how the current and new locations would differ.
The spokesman said the deal was expected to close by the end of the month.
American Furniture Warehouse’s corporate headquarters sit in unincorporated Douglas County at 8820 American Way, near Highway E-470. AFW has 10 stores in Colorado, two in Arizona and one in Texas, Jabs said.
