Sports roundup: Crory’s hat trick powers Eagles

Ponderosa’s Williams brothers are primed for tonight’s Continental League championship dual wrestling match against Chaparral.

Heritage won, Mountain Vista notched two victories and Valor Christian split two games in last week’s Peak Conference hockey games.

Connor Crory had a hat trick in Heritage’s 6-2 win over Palmer.

Five different players scored in Mountain Vista’s 5-1 triumph over Bishop Machebeuf and Tanner Gillis scored a power play goal at the 4:52 mark over of overtime in the Golden Eagles’ 3-2 win over Lewis Palmer.

Mountain Vista outshot Lewis Palmer 35-12 in the chippy contest that saw a total of 64 minutes in penalties called, 50 against Lewis Palmer and 14 against the Golden Eagles.

Matt Joseph had Valor’s lone goal in a 7-1 loss to Fountain Valley.

Dylan Wheeler and Caleb Hance each had two goals in a 9-2 win over Rampart.

Conference leading Heritage improved its Peak record to 10-1-0 and the Eagles are 14-2-0 overall. Mountain Vista stands at 9-2-0 and 13-3-0 while Valor is 7-3-1 and 11-4-1.

Heritage and Mountain Vista play Saturday night at South Suburban Ice Arena.

RANKINGS - Mountain Vista remained No. 2 in the Class 5A boys basketball poll released Monday while ThunderRidge climbed to No.3.

Valor Christian slipped to No. 5 in the Class 4A boys poll and Lutheran was third in the Class 2A rankings.

Four Continental League teams are in the Top 10 of the Class 5A poll.

Regis Jesuit is top ranked with Highlands Ranch No. 2. The teams meet Wednesday night at Regis. Rock Canyon moved up to No. 4 while Chaparral is No. 8.

Arapahoe is sixth in the poll.

Lutheran is still No. 2 in the Class AA girls poll but is closing the gap in the voting on top-ranked Akron. Both teams are unbeaten.
